A group of aspiring actors and performers descended on Trinity College’s Samuel Beckett Theatre recently to launch the Irish Student Drama Association Festival 2010, which commenced this week, 8th March.  This year the Dublin University Players, the drama society of Trinity College, are hosting and running the festival which is one of the highlights of the student drama calendar.

During the week over 35 separate productions will be performed in venues such as the Samuel Beckett Theatre and the Players Theatre in TCD, the Black Box Theatre and the Project Cube.   Over 500 students from 12 participating third level institutions will take part in the festival.  They include aspiring actors and directors, writers, costume and set designers, and lighting and sound engineers.

Speaking about the festival, Ross Dungan of DU Players said: “This festival has been a springboard for numerous influential figures in Irish film and theatre such as Conor McPherson, Pauline McLynn and Fiona Shaw.  For one week the public will be able to see the best and the brightest of the new generation in Irish theatre and film in intimate settings in the city centre whilst emerging talent from all over the country will be given the opportunity to showcase their potential in a festival setting.  The challenging schedule of performances underlines the dedication of the participating students to a career in the industry.”

The festival will run from 8th to the 13th March 2010 and the full programme is available via their website.  Tickets are available from the venue box office 90 minutes prior to each performance.
