Hockey alumni’s extra special guest

Posted on: 27 April 2017

Trinity hockey always looks forward to welcoming back alumni each year for ladies and men’s matches on College Park. This year was extra special though due to the presence of one person in particular.

Dorothea Findlater (nee Wheeler) (107) graduated from Trinity in 1932, and subsequently earned her first cap for Ireland in 1936. This year she donated one of her trophies to Trinity to be given, every year from now on, to the winners of the match between Trinity ladies and an alumni selection.

Mrs Findlater was present for this year’s event and was accompanied by her son John, also ex-Trinity, for an event afterwards in the Pav where she chatted to members of the current ladies first team on the eve of their promotion to the premier EY league.

The men’s hockey alumni event, the Coulson Cup, took place on College Park prior to the ladies’ game.

This is Mrs Findlater’s second visit to campus in just over a year. In March 2016 she attended an alumni event in the Dining Hall attended by the Olympics-bound men’s national hockey team.
