Help and Support for Those Affected by the Paris Terror Attacks

Posted on: 16 November 2015

For all Trinity students: If you have been affected by the tragic events in Paris this weekend group support will be available this Wednesday, 18 November at 2.00pm, which you can arrange by calling 01 896 1407.

The College community is shocked by the events of last Friday in Paris. Our sincere sympathies go to the families and friends of those who were killed and injured.

There is a strong Trinity connection with Paris and France in that over 50 Trinity students are currently on exchanges in that city and our colleagues the Senior Tutor’s Office, the Student Counselling Service and the Chaplaincy spent many hours over the weekend in making contact with them and their families to make sure that they were safe and well, which thankfully they are.

Our community includes many students and staff from France and many of us have personal and professional ties and friendships in France.

A support get-together was organised for all those who feel particularly affected by these tragic events at 5.30pm on Monday 16 November, in the Global Room (Watts Building, near Academic Registry, see map at http://www.tcd.ie/Maps/map.php?b=196). Staff from the Counselling Service and the Chaplaincy attended the event.

Our visiting students from France were particularly welcome. We are fully aware of how difficult it can be to deal with such events when you are away from home and your usual support networks.

You will find below a list of sources of help in Trinity. Don’t hesitate to contact them.

The Director of the Student Counselling Service and Senior Tutor are travelling to Paris to meet and support our students studying there.

As a mark of respect, the Provost decided that the national flag would fly at half-mast on Monday 16 November. In addition, a minute’s silence was observed at 1.00pm as a mark of our solidarity.
