Foresight Business Group launches Journal

Posted on: 21 April 2006

The Foresight Business Group at Trinity College launched the 13th annual Foresight Business Journal at its Trinity Term Business Breakfast on 21 April.

The 2006 Journal is an eclectic blend of articles and features written by students from Trinity’s School of Business Studies. The diversity of topics, clarity of expression and business acumen of its contributors maintains the Journal’s status as a key-resource for students college-wide and a point of reference for the Irish business community.

This year’s publication was launched by Renault Chairman, Dr. Bill Cullen. Listed as one of Ireland’s top 50 businessmen, Dr. Cullen was also the recipient of the 2004 Princess Grace Humanitarian Award and is currently the President of the Irish Youth Foundation. A best-selling author, he has become a household name in recent years for his memoirs “It’s a Long Way from Penning Apples” and “Golden Apples”.

Dr. Cullen delivered a topical speech to the Group entitled “The Celtic Tiger”, which traced the development of the Irish economy from the Irish visit by John F. Kennedy in 1963 to the legacy of Charles Haughey amongst others.

Senior Sophister students, Michelle Reid, Lorraine O’Reilly and Niamh McDermott, were named as this year’s winning authors for their paper entitled “Funny Business – An Interview with Social Entrepreneur, Johnie K”.

Outgoing Foresight Chairperson, Paul Gray, congratulated the Group on what he said was an incredibly successful year for Foresight, “…the Foresight Business Group is a completely unique organisation in Trinity, if not Ireland. The platform for interaction between students and senior business people which it offers is unrivalled…something which is testament to the commitment of successive committees, guidance and encouragement from the School of Business Studies and generous sponsorship from PricewaterhouseCoopers”.

Incoming Foresight Chairperson, Paul Dalton, spoke of the “high quality of articles” received this year and looks forward with anticipation to the 35th Session of the Group. “I feel immensely proud to be involved with Foresight and look forward to the challenge of the year ahead”.
