First Online Trinity HistoryCon a Success!

Posted on: 23 November 2020

Over the weekend, Trinity HistoryCon 3.0 (Re) Programming History took place online and all the talks are still available via the HistoryCon YouTube channel and website.  Questions and costume entries were made via the Twitter account.

Television, film, music, comics, novels and stage plays not only shape but in some cases re-programme our view of a particular time, person, place, ideas. This conference asked how we participate and react to the reporting of history in all its facets.

Dawn Seymour Klos, HistoryCon founder says:

“Trinity HistoryCon 3.0 adapted, survived, and thrived this year in moving to an online platform. Visitors expressed their delight in being able to take part in this year’s event due to the open format. Although we sincerely missed being able to bring history to life for our attendees, the ability to reach a wider audience and provide access to cutting edge research without any restriction of paywalls or travel was truly exciting. Trinity HistoryCon is a place for anyone who wants to learn and enjoy themselves while doing it. We kept true to our mission this year even in the new format.”

Dawn explains more about the talks that can still be seen on the YouTube channel:

“We offered thirteen presentations ranging from climate action and women’s rights in modern India by way of The Handmaid’s Tale to the use of French bell sleeves in Disney’s Maleficent films. For those interested in science fiction, we have two Star Trek talks in addition to a special consideration of androids in the cult classic film Metropolis. No matter your interest or fandom, you’re bound to find something in this year’s line-up to your taste.”

Trinity HistoryCon is an event where scholars, enthusiasts, and entertainment professionals can gather to discuss ideas about media representation, academic and public participation, and take part in live demonstrations and it takes part annually in the autumn.
