Engineers showcase next-gen robotics research at Europe’s largest maker event

Posted on: 12 October 2018

Researchers from Trinity’s School of Engineering will this week (October 12 to 14) be showcasing their next-gen research at Maker Faire Rome, which is Europe’s largest conference for makers and inventors.

The Maker Fair is known as the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth – a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. Maker Faire originated in 2006 in San Francisco and has since grown into a significant worldwide network of both flagship and independently produced events. Maker Faire Rome is an event designed to turn the spotlight on hundreds of projects from around the world that are able to catapult visitors into the future.

The Trinity delegation of six, led by Assistant Professor, Dr Conor McGinn, will be based in the Robotics Area, where they will be showcasing a range of research including ‘Stevie’ the robot – Ireland’s first prototype robot for assisted care.

Dr Conor McGinn said:

It is fantastic to get the chance to attend Maker Faire Rome and to share our research with such a large and diverse audience. Attending such an event gives us excellent exposure and provides unique opportunities to network and engage with some of the best inventors in Europe.

The Trinity team received funding from the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and InnovaCamera, a Special Agency of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, to take part in the event.
