Computer science students connect with employers at Internship Speed Connect

Over 50 candidates from Trinity’s Masters in Computer Science (MCS) and Masters in Computer Engineering (MAI) met with employers at the annual Computer Science ‘Internship Speed Connect’ event last week. The students interviewed for internship placements with companies including Bloomberg, Deloitte, Intel and Accenture.
Interview ‘changeovers’ took place every four minutes with students moving from desk to desk to engage with the different employers, many of whom were participating in their second ‘Internship Speed Connect’ event in Trinity and some of whom had given full-time job offers to last year’s interns.
Speaking at the event, Brian Keane, Head of Engineering at Qualtrics, said: “This is a pipeline which brings fresh perspective, fresh talent and great diversity, a group of students who understand differences in culture, gender, nationality and location, bringing new ideas to build better products for a global company.”
Sam Green, a graduate of this internship process and now working on the other side as a Software Engineer with SureWash, was recruiting at the event. He said: “This internship programme is a great opportunity for students to gain real experience on real world projects.”
This year’s participating students were similarly positive about the experience.
Caoimhe Mooney, a Computer Science student, said: “This event gives brilliant practice talking about yourself, everyone can do a coding problem. After 30 interviews of four minutes each it’s a great way to learn to promote yourself.”
Companies attending Internship Speed Connect included: DemonWare, Effective Software, LexisNexis, Bloomberg PolarLake, TechIreland, Qualtrics, Deloitte, Bearing Point, PTC, Workday, Pivotal, Citi, AIB, Hubspot, Guidewire, StarsGroup, Opening.io, TouchTech, Salesforce, Ultan Technologies, Veritas, Workday, Hosted Graphite, Artista, SureWash, Groupon, Intel, Accenture, Visible Thread and Ericsson. Many more companies are also offering internships including: APTIV, ASSUREHEDGE, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Edgescan, KAL, Shutterstock, SIG, Stripe, Travelport Digital and Wia.
