Careers Week 2014

Posted on: 26 September 2014

Trinity Careers Week offers students the opportunity to learn about a variety of careers, meet employers and find out about postgraduate study options. This year’s event, taking place from 29th September to 3rd October, will cover a wide diversity of careers in Ireland and abroad, such as opportunities in the EU and OECD and will feature a number of employers, graduates and professional bodies representing a wide range of sectors.

Within the programme, the emphasis on using creative strategies to find work is highlighted with a session on ‘Your Personal Brand on Social Media’.  Industry insights will cover areas such as international development and humanitarian relief, the creative arts (film, theatre, music and writing), journalism and broadcasting, marketing, languages, as well as pharmaceutical and bio-industry related areas.

The employer skills workshops include CVs and Application Forms and Interview skills facilitated by HR personnel from larger employers. Students interested in postgraduate study in Ireland and abroad will also be catered for. A broad spectrum of organisations will be present throughout the week including Concern, Trocaire, Irish Aid, Department of Taoiseach, the European Commission,  Redbull, Gerson Lehrman, Mediavest, The Irish Times, thejournal.ie, Zucca Films,  ICON and many more.

Director of the Careers Advisory Service, Sean Gannon, said: “Much of the doom and gloom associated with the graduate jobs market during the last few years is beginning to lift.  Careers Week is an opportunity for students to learn about different sectors and different types of jobs and to obtain top tips from skilled recruiters on making successful applications. It is followed by the Gradireland Graduate Careers Fair in October where the organisers are already talking in terms of the availability of 1000+ graduate jobs and where the organisations attending already exceeds the number of exhibitors in any of the last 5 years.  As the semester progresses other companies will be visiting Dublin and the campus to present their opportunities.”

Trinity Careers Week is organised by the Careers Advisory Service supported by the Students’ Union and the Graduate Students’ Union and sponsored by Deloitte. A full programme of Careers Week activities is available from the Careers Advisory Service website.

Other upcoming careers events include The GradIreland Graduate Careers Fair, taking place on Wednesday 8th October in the RDS with over 80 graduate recruiters, course providers and professional bodies from Ireland and the UK attending, and Trinity Law Fair, featuring high profile law firms will take place on 7th October on campus in the Dining Hall Atrium.
