Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust Gives Funding for New Haematology Position

Posted on: 24 November 2014

The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust (BMLT), a voluntary registered charity, is providing funding of €750,000 to enable Trinity College Dublin and St James’s Hospital to strengthen cancer care and research. The generous gift will fund a new position – Assistant Professor in Haematology, a post crucial for building research capacity for the ultimate benefit of patients with leukaemia and related diseases.

The vacancy for the BMLT Assistant Professor position will be announced by Trinity’s School of Medicine shortly.

The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust  is dedicated to supporting patients and families living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood diseases. The BMLT funded the refurbishment of a specialised transplant unit in St James’s Hospital and supports the medical team in providing the best possible care. This support is in four main areas: financial assistance for patients; the Denis Burkitt Stem Cell Transplant Unit and associated day care centre; accommodation outside the hospital for patients and their families; and research and development into better methods of managing leukaemia and related diseases.

Professor McCann has dedicated his life to the care of patients with blood diseases.
