April was another action-packed month for sport in Trinity. It all began with the Festival of Rugby Colours, which, as the name suggests, involved a week-long programme of rugby, including the first stand-alone women’s event. The women were beaten by a more experienced UCD side however it was the opposite result for the men’s fixture on College Park the following night. A late try by Captain Michael Courtney ensured victory for the home side with a score line of 11-10.

The annual Trinity Regatta (photo) this year welcomed 230 crews to Islandbridge and among them the home teams, DUBC (men’s rowing) and DULBC (women’s rowing), fared well, with both winning their senior 8 races.

The Irish Universities Track and Field Championships took place in Belfast the following weekend from which Harriers (DUHAC) returned with a haul of medals.

Kate Doherty won gold in the pentathlon, Sorcha McAllister won gold in the 3,000 metres, Cliona Murphy silver in the 1,500 metres while Muireann McGinley also won silver in the pole vault. Both Sean Thompson and Conor Bermingham won bronze in the triple jump and pole vault respectively.

There were medals too for Fencing at the National Championships, where sports scholar Philip Cripwell won silver in the men’s foil, Crystal Percival won bronze in the women’s foil, while alumna Natalya Coyle claimed gold in women's epée.
