Trinity College Dublin has placed 75th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2027, holding its strongest position in a decade. The university remains by some margin the highest ranked university in Ireland.

The 2027 ranking is due in large part to strong performances in indicators such as International Faculty, International Students, Employment Outcomes, and Sustainability.  Trinity placed 29th globally in the Sustainability category.

The QS World University Rankings evaluated 8,808 institutions and ranked 1,504 universities across nine indicators within five categories.

Trinity’s Provost and President Dr Linda Doyle said: “It is a solid achievement to hold our place at 75th in the world in these rankings, particularly in light of continued government underfunding of Ireland’s universities.

“To maintain our place as a world leader into the future and, better still, to achieve our ambitions, we urgently need government to honour its “Funding the Future” commitment to substantially increase core funding for the higher education sector.”

Trinity’s Dean of Research Prof. Sinéad Ryan said “At Trinity we are committed to harnessing our expertise for the collective good – and rankings like this remind us that we are on the right path and are a tribute to the incredible work and dedication of my colleagues all across Trinity.

Our sustainability placement is especially welcome. We are proud to be combining influential and impactful research with academic excellence and strong career outcomes for students.

“I join the Provost in urging the government to meet its commitment to fully fund the sector. The possibilities for discovery and radical breakthroughs that could be unlocked would be transformational for our society and the world in which we live.”
