Trinity hosts major world conference on school effectiveness

Trinity’s School of Education and the Marino Institute of Education are set to host delegates from 42 countries at the 37th International Congress on School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI).

More than 500 delegates will attend the conference from 9-12 January 2024, reflecting on strategies to support and enhance the functioning of schools.

Leading experts in educational policy, school effectiveness, and leadership will exchange ideas on how schools can be optimised to serve the needs of students, communities and society.

The event occurs as disruptive global events, including the COVID-19 pandemic and wars, have illustrated the importance of school to young people. Delegates will consider how education systems may need to incorporate more robust structures and processes that can help address unexpected challenges.

Conference co-chair Prof. Damian Murchan said:

“ICSEI 2024 is the largest international conference on school effectiveness and improvement ever held in Ireland. It comes at a time of ongoing developments nationally in relation to curriculum, pedagogy, initial teacher education and professional development for teachers and school leaders across education sectors.

“The conference will provide a rich opportunity for the interchange of ideas between Irish-based researchers, policymakers and practitioners and their colleagues in other jurisdictions. I hope that this congress will provide enduring opportunities for stronger international collaboration in these important areas.”
