Dr Linda Doyle, Provost of Trinity College Dublin, has been elected the new Chair of the League of European Research Universities (LERU).

LERU is a well-established network of 23 research-intensive universities. It develops and disseminates its views on research, innovation and higher education through policy papers, statements, meetings and events helping to shape policy at the EU level. Trinity joined LERU in January 2017 and is the only university on the island of Ireland to be a member.

“I am honoured to be elected Chair of this fantastic network of leading European research-intensive universities. It is always a great privilege to engage with, and learn from, colleagues across the LERU network. LERU has had a significant record of policy impact in research, innovation and higher education. I am really looking forward to continuing LERU’s important work of helping to shape European and international policy and initiatives,” said the Provost after her election.

At today’s Rectors’ Assembly in Zurich, the Rectors also appointed two new board members: Professor Henrik C. Wegener, Rector of the University of Copenhagen, and Professor Sir Peter Mathieson, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Edinburgh. Together they will oversee LERU’s activities and set out its policies and strategies for the next three years. Professor Kurt Deketelaere was reappointed as Secretary-General of LERU.
