School of Social Sciences & Philosophy holds Student Prize Ceremony

The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy's inaugural Student Prize Ceremony was held in the Synge Theatre on December 4th 2023.

The ceremony, hosted by the Head of School, Professor Paul O’Grady, brought together over 100 students, guests, and members of the School community.

Professor O’Grady emphasised its significance: “This ceremony provides a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional student achievements within our school, which is the third largest in Trinity. A total of 43 awards are being distributed today, comprising 28 undergraduate Department prizes and 2 postgraduate Department prizes as well as recognition of 3 Foundation Scholars and 10 Gold Medal Winners.”

In her opening address, Professor Gail McElroy, Dean of AHSS, highlighted the enduring relevance of the Social Sciences and Philosophy, underscoring Trinity's role in shaping current and future innovators, collaborators and leaders. She also expressed gratitude to the benefactors of the Departmental awards for their support in promoting student success.

The ceremony concluded with a special presentation by Francis O'Toole and Paul O'Grady to Professor John O’Hagan to mark his substantial contributions to the Department of Economics, spanning an impressive six decades to date.

This recognition honoured Professor O'Hagan's substantial contributions to the Department of Economics, particularly in undergraduate and postgraduate student teaching, spanning an impressive six decades to date.
