Trinity unveils groundbreaking accessibility tool during TCDSU Disability Week

Embracing Sensory Diversity with TCD Sense Map

Today Trinity College Dublin launched its new Sense Map, an innovative tool designed to enhance campus accessibility and sensory inclusivity. The tool was launched by TCDSU President László Molnárfi in Printing House Square, the newest major building on Trinity's campus, home to the state-of-the-art disAbility hub.

Developed collaboratively by neurodivergent student interns in the disAbility Service and Dan O’Reilly, alumnus and former member of TCDSU, the TCD Sense Map is an interactive guide to campus. It provides detailed sensory and accessibility information for buildings and rooms, ensuring everyone can navigate spaces with ease and comfort, representing Trinity's ongoing commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

Dr Kieran Lewis, Occupational Therapy Manager in the Trinity disAbility Hub, said: "We are extremely excited about the TCD Sense Map. It is not just a tool; it is a new way for us to imagine and think about the needs of our diverse population. This map is a significant step towards creating an inclusive environment that recognises and respects everyone's sensory experiences."

Faolan Doecke Launders, Chair of the Trinity Neurodiversity Society and TCD Sense Lead, said: "Working on the TCD Sense Map has been a remarkable journey. As someone deeply involved in the neurodiversity community, it is fulfilling to see our ideas come to life in such a tangible way. This map is not just about helping people find their way around campus; it is about redefining how we view and cater to the diverse sensory needs of our community. It's a testament to what we can achieve when we listen to and collaborate with those who experience the world differently."
