Trinity’s School of Engineering has been ranked in the top 100 internationally by the just published 2011 QS World University Rankings.

The rankings place TCD as the only Irish institution to make it into the top 100 for Electrical Engineering.  TCD also made the top 100 in Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering and in Chemical engineering, while TCD’s Civil and Structural Engineering, and Computer Science and Information Systems made it into the top 200.

Speaking about the rankings, Head of the School of Engineering Professor Margaret O’Mahony said: “The School of Engineering’s strong performance reflects the quality of academic staff, researchers and students that we are able to attract here at Trinity.  The school has an international reputation for its innovative teaching and research and the QS rankings serve to highlight that fact.”

The first QS World University Rankings produced at specific subject level confirm Trinity College’s School of Engineering’s international standing.  The 2011 QS World University Rankings by subject for Engineering and Technology disciplines are the first in a series of unique world university rankings which aims to rank universities based on subject.

For the purpose of compiling the rankings QS score universities according to a number of criteria which include academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per faculty.
