Three Trinity PhD students have been selected to attend the League of European Research Universities’ (LERU) doctoral summer school that will be held this summer in the University of Zurich.

The summer school aims to provide doctoral candidates with unique professional and personal development opportunities outside of what they will be exposed to over the course of the their study.

PhD students Shauna Quinn, Rebecca Amet and Camila Perera will be attending this year’s highly prestigious event where the central theme will be Citizen Science – science and public participation in the digital age. Shauna, Rebecca and Camila will be representing Trinity at the summer school where they will be working with other PhD students from across the various LERU member universities.

Dean of Graduate Studies in Trinity Professor Neville Cox,  said; “I am truly delighted that after a very competitive process both internally and within LERU, Shauna, Rebecca and Camila will have the opportunity to attend at the LERU doctoral summer school.

“This promises to be wonderful event involving some of the very best doctoral students in Europe and it is a cause of celebration that three hugely talented students from Trinity will be part of it. Indeed more generally, and having been part of the panel which reviewed all of the many applications from Trinity students for this school, I was struck once again by the remarkable work which is being done on a daily basis by our PhD students in all disciplines.  I have no doubt that our three attendees at the school will contribute significantly to what will be a phenomenal learning experience.”

Trinity joined LERU last year and is the only university in Ireland to be a part of the organisation. In order to be accepted into LERU, Trinity underwent a rigorous evaluation on research volume, impact and funding, strengths in PhD training, size and disciplinary breath, and peer recognised academic excellence.
