Trinity Green Week encourages Students and Staff to ‘Go Green in 2015’

Posted on: 17 February 2015

Go Green in 2015 is the theme for the College’s 13th Annual Green Week which is running from 16th – 20th February.  The aim of the week is to highlight the need for every member of the College Community to ‘Go Green in 2015’ by identifying with the Green Campus Programme and  working even harder to achieve the College’s sustainability targets.

Green Week was launched on Monday, 16th February by Senator David Norris and Trinity start-up FoodCloud co-founder, Iseult Ward, who spoke on ‘Green Entrepreneurship’. FoodCloud is a community-based social enterprise that brings food businesses and charities together with an easy-to-use and reliable platform, matching those with too much food with those who have too little.

The launch of Green Week included a display of the latest technology in electric vehicles, the presentation of a cheque for €4,700 to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children generated through the College’s print cartridge recycling scheme, an address by the Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast and a draw for a Trinity Ball ticket.

The programme for the week, which is produced by a range of Student Societies, is more expansive than ever with something for everyone. Events include Bird and Stone Walks, talks on ‘Green Journalism’ and the’ World’s Organic Farms’, photography and table quizzes, free ‘bike health checks’  and relaxation classes.

A Green Jobs Fair will be held with participants including Dublin Food Coop, Oxfam Ireland, Caroline’s Company, Irish Wildlife Trust, and Young Friends of The Earth. The results of the College’s recent Smarter Travel Trinity travel survey will be published during the week and this year’s annual Simon Perry Memorial Lecture titled ‘Engineering a smart sustainable Campus’ will take place on Wednesday 18 February at 1pm.
