Suspect envelope found at Trinity College

A suspicious envelope containing a white powder was received by post in The Secretary’s Office in Trinity College on Thursday 18 October. College Security Staff and the College Safety Officer were informed immediately. They alerted the Gardaí and Dublin Fire Brigade who promptly arrived on campus.

The Secretary’s Office was sealed off with 8 staff members inside on the advice of the Gardaí and Fire Brigade authorities.

The suspicious envelope was removed by the Army Bomb Disposal Unit.

Dublin Fire Brigade set up a decontamination spraying unit through which the 8 staff members passed on exiting the building. They were taken to St. James’s Hospital by ambulance as an additional precautionary measure.

No other part of the College was affected and lectures and classes are continuing as normal.
