Date set for Seanad Bye-Election

The Bye-Election for the University of Dublin (Trinity) Seanad constituency will take place over the coming weeks.

Candidates who wish to take part in the election have until the 11th February to file their nominations. They must be nominated by a proposer, a seconder and 8 assentors all of whom are registered voters.

Candidates seeking to take part need to fill in the Form of Nomination which may be obtained from the Academic Registry, Watts Building, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, Dublin 2 during the hours of 09:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday or by emailing academic.registry@tcd.ie

Ballot papers will be issued to all registered electors in the University of Dublin constituency on 25th February and must be returned by post by the 30th March.

The result will be announced thereafter.

Who can vote in the Seanad Bye-Election?

Every person who is a citizen of Ireland has been admitted to a degree (other than an honorary degree) by the University of Dublin or has obtained a foundation scholarship.

There are currently 67,799 people registered and eligible to vote in the Bye-Election.

The register of electors for the University of Dublin panel is maintained by Trinity’s Academic Registry (AR). Graduates can contact AR to check if they are registered to vote.

The Bye-Election is being held to fill the seat of Ivana Bacik following her election to the Dail.
