Corvil Backs Mathematics Studentships

Posted on: 05 May 2015

Trinity College Dublin and Corvil, the network data analytics company for business in the Now™, are to develop a Summer Studentship Initiative to provide undergraduates with first-hand mathematical experience. Corvil is also providing significant financial support for Trinity’s Hamilton Scholars PhD Programme.

The Summer Studentship Initiative will commence this summer, with mathematics undergraduate students set to engage in projects involving numerical and statistical data analysis techniques at Corvil.

Corvil is also making a donation towards the Hamilton Scholars PhD Programme, which trains professional mathematicians to pursue the study of scientific and technological problems by using mathematical methods, and encourages them to undertake research in various branches of the subject.

The Hamilton Scholars Programme aims to attract and support the best Irish and international students to carry out research, strengthen Trinity’s School of Mathematics’ capacity in teaching, and continue the development of the discipline of mathematics and theoretical physics.

“The application of rigorous and well-founded scientific and engineering insights has always been an important part of Corvil’s culture and a well-spring for innovation in our products and technologies,” said Fergal Toomey, Chief Scientist and co-founder of Corvil and Trinity graduate.

“We anticipate that advanced mathematical techniques will continue to grow in importance in the field of Network Data Analytics, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to support and collaborate with the School of Mathematics in Trinity.”

“We are grateful to Corvil for the financial support for Hamilton Scholars and for giving our students the opportunity to enhance their mathematical education by experiencing the work of a company at the cutting-edge of network data analytics,” said Professor and Head of the School of Mathematics at Trinity, Sinéad Ryan.

“Trinity is also proud to see one of our PhD graduates go on to found such a successful mathematically-based company,” she added.
