Commissioner Vestager receives gold medal from the Historical Society

The EU Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager took part in a Citizens’ Dialogue with the College Historical Society and was presented with the Society’s Gold Medal for her contribution to public discourse this week.

The event was moderated by the Auditor of the College Historical Society, Catherine Kelly with students from all over College in attendance. In her opening words, Commissioner Vestager said that democracy was a matter of the heart and that Europe was currently the best place to live  especially for a woman.

She praised Ireland for its sense of resilience and no nonsense approach. On the topic of Brexit she said that Ireland would not be left alone in the situation and that we would support each other. “This is the basic value of Europe 27 and a Europe I am proud to serve,” she concluded.

The Citizens’ Dialogues are supported by the European Commission and have the objective of promoting debate on the future of Europe and important EU policies.
