Trinity College Dublin is host to several events during Culture Night on Friday 19th September. Join in the fun during this annual public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts, all over Ireland.
Here are the range of activities taking place across Trinity. Click on the links to find out more detail on each event.
Trinity Orchestra presents Culture Night (booking required)
Trinity Orchestra will welcome visitors back for a special programme of classical and traditional music for Culture Night. In collaboration with the DU Music society, earlier this year Trinity Orchestra threw an event raising money for the Palestinian Red Crescent charity to raise awareness of the genocide in Palestine. Taking inspiration from the Irish trad group Lankum, members of the orchestra arranged and performed renditions of many of Lankum’s most popular pieces. They look forward to presenting some of these pieces again, and pay respect to traditional music, which is at the heart of meaning and understanding of culture on the island of Ireland.
Step inside The Lir – National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin – Ireland’s premier centre for training the next generation of theatre-makers, actors, and designers.
Throughout the evening, visitors can drop in for workshops, demonstrations, and guided tours that pull back the curtain on the vibrant world of stagecraft. From acting and directing to the often-unseen magic of set, costume, and lighting design, tutors and students from The Lir will be on hand to share their expertise and offer a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the craft of theatre-making.
Lava Land: The Awesome World of Volcanoes
Join the Dublin Magmatism Group in Regent House at Trinity College Dublin for a fun, family-friendly event with exciting demonstrations and hands-on displays! Explore volcanoes, magma, and their powerful role in shaping our planet and society.
LoGaCulture: Voices of the Boyne
Trinity’s Front Square will host a live demonstration of LoGaCulture: Voices of the Boyne, an immersive audio-augmented reality experience.
The project invites visitors to step into one of Ireland’s most decisive moments—the Battle of the Boyne (1690), when King William III and King James II clashed in the largest battle ever fought on Irish soil. Through music and sound, participants explore not only the world of 1690, but also connections to Neolithic Ireland and the present day.
The LoGaCulture Ireland project is led by Prof Mads Haahr and Joris Vreeke at Trinity’s School of Computer Science and Statistics, with collaborators Dr Svetlana Rudenko, Karun Manoharan, and Breanne Pitt. Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme.
