College Awareness Week Celebrates 10 years with the TY Challenge Finals in Cork!

College Awareness Week (CAW), which is running this year from 20 to 26 November, has become a significant milestone in the education calendar, encouraging students to explore their options and consider the benefits of pursuing further and higher education. With a decade of successful campaigns, CAW has been instrumental in fostering a college-going culture and empowering students across the country.

To celebrate 10 years of CAW, MTU Cork hosted the launch to coincide with the “CAW TY Challenge” finals. Originating in MTU Cork and UCC Plus+ access programmes, the TY Challenge is an exciting initiative aimed at transition year students, designed to engage them in exploring college options and inspiring their future aspirations using digital and social media. The finals took place at the MTU Cork campus, where students (including those from TAP-linked schools) shared their projects and received prizes for their year group.

Dr Linda Doyle, Provost of Trinity College Dublin, said: “It is wonderful to see College Awareness Week celebrate its 10th birthday!

“This is a fantastic and much-needed initiative. I really hope that the week of activities will spark curiosity about going to college among students from all backgrounds.

“We are hugely proud that College Awareness Week started in Trinity and that it continues to grow and reach communities nationwide.”

Founded in the Trinity Access Programmes in 2014, CAW was launched with the help of neighbouring students in CBS Westland Row. Last year it saw 163,000 students take part in every county in Ireland. CAW champions the ripple effect of providing role models to students and in doing so encouraging them to explore and fulfil their educational potential.
