I cannot gain access to myTCD portal or my TCD email to accept my invitation or see information about my graduation ceremony.

Please contact IT services or visit this page for further information.

I can't attend my graduation. What are the next steps?

If you cannot attend your graduation, you will receive an invitation to your my.tcd.ie portal where you can choose your attendance choice (in person at a ceremony, or in absentia without attending and your parchment will be posted to you).

Should you not respond to this invitation, you will not proceed to a ceremony for conferral.

Should you wish to apply for a future ceremony, please complete a Notice of Candidature form.

Dates in the future will be added in due course, please see our graduation page for updates.

I haven’t responded to the email on time, how do I graduate?

If you have not responded to our invitation to graduate via your my.tcd.ie portal, you will noted as not attending your upcoming ceremony.

If you have failed to respond to the invite on time, please fill in a Notice of Candidature form.

I need a visa letter to confirm my graduation date.

For visa letters, please send an email to academic.registry@tcd.ie.

How many guests can I have at the event?

The attendance of each candidate at a ceremony permits the entrance of two guests. We are currently not in position to offer any additional guests to candidates.

How long will the ceremony be?

The entire ceremony may last from one hour – one hour and twenty minutes depending on course size.

Will I get my parchment on the day?

Yes.

What is the reception/itinerary?

Each graduation will be followed by a small reception in the Dining Hall. Due to staffing requirements, there will be no receptions on Saturdays.

Can my friend accept my certificate for me?

Nobody else can accept your certificate for you. You must either attend the graduation or be conferred in absentia.

I lost my parchment after the event. What do I do?

Please note that the parchment originally awarded should be the only one in existence.

A duplicate degree certificate may be issued provided applicants declare in writing that to the best of their belief their original certificate has been destroyed, or has been lost for more than twelve months, or (the degree having been conferred in absentia) did not reach them through the post; and that if the original certificate is found they will return the duplicate to the Academic Registry.

For more information please visit the college calendar website.

Application for a duplicate degree may be made to the Academic Registry here.

I didn’t attend my graduation or opt for absentia. How do I get my parchment?

As per the College Regulations, you cannot receive your parchment until you have been formally conferred either in person or in Absentia.

This unfortunately means that we will have to confer you either in person or in absentia during our next Commencements.

Please fill out this Notice of Candidature form in order to ensure you are included in a future ceremony of your choice.

How do I get my degree translated to English?

All degree parchments are presented in Latin to candidates for degrees at Commencements. Employers and other institutions will sometimes request an English translation of your degree parchment - this is provided by the Academic Registry on request from the graduate. All translations issued on A4 University letterhead by the Academic Registry are certified and endorsed with an official University stamp. Translations can also be sent by email in PDF format. Please allow a minimum of 5 working days to process your request.

Application for a translation or a replacement parchment should be made by contacting the Academic Registry with these details

  1. Your full name when you were registered at Trinity College Dublin
  2. Date of birth
  3. Student number (if available)
  4. Award to be replaced/translated (eg, B.A., Ph.D.)
  5. Years registered at Trinity College Dublin
  6. Home address (as currently recorded by the University)
  7. Details of how translation/replacement is to be provided (e.g. email address, postal address)

All awards other than degrees are originally presented in English by the University and do not require a translation.

Can staff members come to graduation ceremonies?

Staff members are welcome to join the ceremony.  Please present yourself at the Public Theatre with your staff card (and gown if available) and you shall be directed to a seat.  Please note seating is limited and on a first come first served basis.
