As part of Budget 2024, The Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science - Simon Harris recently announced a €1,000 reduction in the student contribution fee for Higher Education students eligible for the free fees initiative.

Eligible students will see their student contribution fee reduced from €3,000 to €2,000 (on a pro-rata basis where applicable):

  • Students who have paid €3,000 towards their student contribution fee will receive a refund of €1,000.
  • Students who have opted to pay by instalments will have their outstanding balance reduced by €1,000 (pro-rata if applicable)

Refunds will commence week starting 13th November (students must ensure that their bank details are correctly input via the student portal). Watch our video about how to add your bank details to your my.tcd.ie portal.

Please be aware that if you receive a refund and are deemed ineligible at a later date (e.g. going off-books for academic year or withdrawal from college etc) you will be required to repay this amount and your student account will be updated accordingly.

If you have queries on the above, please forward same to TCD - Ask Online – for the attention of Student Finance BUD24 initiative, include your 8 digit student number and a member of the team will respond.

Students do not need to take any action, refunds or credit due on foot of this initiative will be processed automatically.
