Biography

Dr Ann Monaghan is the Project Manager for The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA), based in Medical Gerontology. This study has been collecting data related to all aspects of health, economic and social circumstances on over 8,000 adults over the age of 50 since its inception in 2008. Prior to commencing her current role in TILDA, Ann worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the Discipline of Medical Gerontology and also in Physiotherapy. Her research activities relate to exercise and physical activity as an ameliorable strategy for liver and metabolic disease, post COVID-19 fatigue, physical deconditioning, frailty, and other age-related disorders. Ann completed her PhD in Physiotherapy in TCD in 2019. Her overall project was an evaluation of a broad array of parameters related to physical activity, cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiometabolic health in people living with Hepatitis C. Prior to this, Ann obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (TCD) in 2014 and a Post-graduate Certificate in Statistics (TCD) in 2015. Ann has been teaching on undergraduate physiotherapy modules shared between Singapore Institute of Technology and Trinity College Dublin since 2017. She is also involved at an educational development level in the Discipline of Medical Gerontology.
