Evaluation of an Alcohol Intervention Programme in a sporting setting: a controlled trial

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) had concerns about alcohol consumption rates and patterns among its club membership.  In conjunction with the GAA and the HSE-NE Health Promotion Unit the research team set out to determine the effectiveness of a community-based alcohol intervention programme in reducing the level of alcohol misuse.  The HRB funded controlled trial took baseline measurements, has implemented the intervention and will evaluate its effectiveness after 1 year in place.
