Financial supports for Traveller and Roma students
TAP provides supports for Traveller and Roma students studying in Trinity College.
These include the Student Assistance Fund (ESF/SAF), Student Accomodation Assistance fund and student scholarships. The Student Assistance Fund (ESF/SAF) is managed by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS). The SAF is allocated to higher education institutions (HEIs).
Traveller and Roma students can also apply for the Student Accommodation Assistance fund. This funding provides financial support to Traveller and Roma students, and students with experience of the care system, to help with accommodation costs while living independently and attending higher education. For more information please consult the Student Accomodation FAQs and contact your TAP advisor. Applications close on the 16th of October 2026.
The Student Accomodation fund is funded by DFHEIRIS and the Dormant Accounts Fund.
The Gisele Schmidt Scholars Fund for Travellers was established in 2007 at Trinity to financially support Traveller students in accessing higher education. For more information about how to apply, please contact: tapundergraduates@tcd.ie or kotoole@tcd.ie.
