The Trinity Student Philosophical Review invites Philosophy students and staff to the launch of Volume IV, taking place at 6pm on Friday 27 March 2026 in the Hist Conversation Room, GMB.

The evening will open with a presentation by Dr Sebastian Stein, a postdoctoral researcher funded by the German Research Foundation, based at Heidelberg University. Dr. Stein’s research spans German Idealism, with a particular focus on Hegel and Fichte, as well as the foundations of practical philosophy and metaphysics. His talk for the evening will focus on the following:

  • Hegel’s take on philosophical pluralism and on the one-ness of philosophical reason (including his account of philosophical error).
  • Hegel on the transcendental idealist (i.e. Kantian/Fichtean) notion of philosophy.
  • Hegel’s constructive critique of this notion
  • Hegel’s own concept of philosophy
  • One critical/Spinozist interpretation of Hegel’s concept of philosophy
    Hegel’s rejection of this interpretation
  • Concluding remarks and some potential problems with Hegel’s account of philosophy.

The talk will be followed by a wine and cheese reception, with an opportunity to meet the speaker, fellow students, and members of the Philosophy Department.

All are welcome!
