The 2026 Philosophy Today series, now in its third year, ran from January to April and brought some of the sharpest philosophical minds to a public audience. Dr Pablo Magaña Fernández opened with a provocation about workplace democracy; Dr Ashley Shaw explored how desire shapes the choices that define our lives; Dr Tom Farrell asked whether a complete scientific explanation of consciousness is within reach or an illusion; Dr Kenneth Silver made the case for moral limits on extreme wealth; Dr Rossella De Bernardi examined the inequalities hidden inside everyday emotion norms; and Dr Julian Bacharach closed the series last Thursday by asking whether our memories are windows to the past or stories we tell ourselves.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, asked great questions, and made each evening what it was. And to our six speakers, whose ability to bring genuinely difficult ideas to a general audience we are so grateful for.
We'll be back. If you'd like to be among the first to hear about the 2027 series and other public events from the Philosophy department, sign up to our mailing list.
