Publications
Trinity-INC staff have a chapter written with colleagues from Utrecht University in the recent book Why EDI Matters: Equ(al)ity, Diversity and Inclusion in European Universities, 2025 published by Padova University Press. The chapter “Making the Curriculum Inclusive in Two European Universities: Approaches, Challenges and Opportunities” by authors Edurne García Iriarte, Seán Adderley, Gemma Corbalán, Irina Marin, Derina Johnson and Julie Fraser assesses approaches to develop inclusive curricula in two Coimbra Group universities, Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and Utrecht University (Netherlands). Reports
The Trinity Inclusive Curriculum Project’s (Trinity-INC) 2024 symposium articulated the national policy context on inclusion in third level education, showcased Trinity’s-INC best inclusive curriculum practice and engaged with key stakeholders on implementing an inclusive university culture. A Trinity-INC evaluation was commissioned in 2024. Two expert external evaluators were appointed to conduct the evaluation as follows:
Roy McConkey is Emeritus Professor of Developmental Disabilities at Ulster University and formerly a visiting Professor at the University of Sydney, University of Cape Town and Trinity College Dublin. He has undertaken research and evaluation projects for various UN agencies as well as Government Departments and NGOs in the UK and Ireland.
Ann Swift is an independent researcher and consultant with over 20 years of experience advising organisations primarily in the nonprofit and public sectors. She recently reported on the EPSEN Review public consultation process on behalf of the Department of Education. She is also a part-time academic researcher with a particular interest in disability.
A mixed methods participatory evaluation approach, utilising primary and secondary data guided by a Theory of Change model was chosen by the evaluation team. An Evaluation Oversight Group met during the course of the evaluation process.
The evaluation report when completed was presented at various Trinity Committees including the Quality Committee (16/10/25), Undergraduate Studies Committee (14/10/25), Graduate Studies Committee (23/10/25) (all of these are Council reporting Committees in Trinity) by the Senior Lecturer, Head of Centre for Academic Practice, and Head of EDI. An implementation plan arising from the Evaluation Report and compiled by Trinity Teaching and Learning was also presented to these Committees. Evaluation report findings were shared with the EDI Sub-Committee (4/11/2025) and the People and Culture Committee (27/11/2025) the implementation plan and the path through the above Committees.
