Bovine Fertility

While anti-microbial peptides were originally recognised for their important role in killing bacteria, recent observations have suggested they have another important role in reproduction. Some of these peptides are exclusively expressed in the reproductive organs and enhance fertility by promoting sperm mobility. In collaboration with Dr Kieran Meade at Teagasc, our research is exploring the role of bovine anti-microbial peptides in promoting bovine fertility.
