Electron Microscopy

Using electrons instead of light allows greater resolving power and magnification than traditional optical microscopy techniques. This allows study and characterisation of cell ultrastructure as well as nano-scale biomolecules, particles and microorganisms.

Electrons are accelerated at high voltage down a column under high vacuum and interact with a specimen forming a transmitted electron image from density related electron scattering of the electron beam. Images are formed and captured on a digital camera via phosphor doped prism (scintillator).
