Role: 
Assistant Professor in Philosophy of Mind (full-time, 100%), to start August 2024.

Job Description:
The primary purpose of this post is to contribute to teaching and research in the Department of Philosophy. The successful applicant will have an established reputation in research in the field of Philosophy of Mind. The successful applicant will also have a track record of excellence in teaching philosophy and will be expected to contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across the philosophy curriculum.  

The successful applicant will be an engaged member of the Philosophy community and will also be required to undertake administrative responsibilities as directed by the Head of Department.

The successful candidate will be required to do the following:

Teaching

  • Design and deliver modules in the broad area of Philosophy of Mind and other modules as assigned.
  • Contribute to the teaching of Masters’ students and supervision of PhD candidates.
  • Offer undergraduate teaching in at least one of the following areas: History, Philosophy and Ethics of Science; Aesthetics; History of Philosophy (preferably, Modern).
  • Utilise available technology to develop learning environments that are consistent with best contemporary teaching and learning practices, flexible, student-centred and accessible.

Research

  • Improve the overall research profile and reputation of the Department of Philosophy on the international stage.
  • Publish in philosophy journals of high standing.
  • Meet expectations in terms of numbers of publications and level of funded research in line with the Assistant Professor grade.

Standard Duties

  • Undertake appropriate administrative tasks that support the Department of Philosophy, the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, and the wider Trinity community.
  • Assume a leadership/managerial role within the Department of Philosophy and the School of Social Science and Philosophy, appropriate to the level of appointment.
