Research Expertise

Description

I am a highly research-productive academic, adeptly managing substantial teaching, supervision, and administrative duties. My research is directly focused on supporting industry in managing change to enhance safety, risk, and operational performance. This builds on a multi-disciplinary approach spanning Organisational Psychology, Organisational Behaviour, Human Factors and Action Research. This multi-disciplinary approach is unique as research in this area tends to be `siloed' both in terms of discipline and sector. My research has led to the creation of innovative concepts, tools, and methodologies for diagnosing and implementing systemic changes. These are rigorously tested through collaborative research and practice across various industries, including Mining, Emergency Response, Light Rail, Maritime, Health, and Aviation. I have secured significant research funding (€3,985,427) from diverse sources such as the European Commission, Industry Partners, and Government Bodies, underscoring the practical impact and academic rigor of my work. I have established a pivotal network of national and international collaborators. I am the PI on the project to host the National Office of Traffic Medicine (NOTM) where expert guidance and support on medical fitness to drive will be provided and I will lead on the development and implementation of a national framework on standards, research and education in traffic medicine. This aligns perfectly with Trinity College's commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and addressing critical societal and industry challenges. Early in my career, my research dissemination was characterised by influential reports that informed organisational change policy across sectors. Recently, I have significantly increased my journal publication rate, and my citations have nearly doubled since 2016, reflecting my growing academic influence. I believe that my research programmes are at the forefront of delivering on TCD's strategic objective: Undertake research at the frontiers of disciplines, spurring on the development of new interdisciplinary fields and making a catalysing impact on local innovation and on addressing global challenges.
