Biography
Dr O'Hagan joined the Department of Hispanic Studies at TCD in 2009, following a lectureship at Queen's University Belfast. Her research interests include representations of America in Spanish Enlightenment literature, specifically the Enlightenment disputes over the New World and the legitimacy of Spain's American conquest. She has published broadly on a number of major eighteenth-century Spanish writers, including José Cadalso, Juan Pablo Forner, Nicolás Fernández de Moratín, Pedro Montengón and Manuel José Quintana. Her research on eighteenth-century Spanish literature has also spanned multiple genres (poetry, prose and satire). Dr O'Hagan's current research interests focus on the role of Ireland in contemporary Spanish literature, especially the poetry of Antonio Rivero Taravillo (1963-2025). Dr O'Hagan teaches on a wide range of modules covering eighteenth-, nineteenth- and twentieth-century Spanish literature. She has also supervised PhD and MPhil dissertations. During her time at Trinity Dr O'Hagan has undertaken a number of roles including Head of Department and Director of Undergraduate Teaching and Learning for the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies. She has also served on various committees both at School and College level.
