The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy’s first Public Autumn Series, Democracy at a Crossroads, concluded this October, bringing audiences together for insightful discussions on the state of global democracy. Held over four engaging evenings, the series explored the challenges and possibilities facing democracy today, with each department in the School contributing its unique perspective.

The series began with The Wealth Divide, where Dr Marvin Suesse from the Department of Economics discussed economic inequality's impact on elections. This was followed by The Moral Limits of Democracy, in which Trinity philosophers examined the complexities of majority rule. Democracy and Social Media featured insights from the Department of Sociology on social media’s influence on political engagement and regulation. Finally, Election Watch 2024 closed the series with a comparative look at global election trends led by the Department of Political Science.
