Are we ready for the social and moral dilemmas of living alongside superintelligent AI?

That was the focus of Dr Will Ratoff’s lecture, “Machines Like Us? The Ethics of Artificial General Intelligence,” delivered to a packed JM Synge Theatre on Thursday, 2 October. Dr Ratoff explored the ethical and social challenges posed by machines that could one day equal, or surpass, human intelligence, from their use in warfare to their role in our personal lives.

The talk was followed by a lively Q&A with the audience. Thanks to Dr Ratoff for a fascinating evening and Dr Ashley Shaw for hosting.

This lecture was part of the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy’s Autumn Series, which continues on Thursday, 9 October, with Dr Jian Cao on “The New Economic Order with AI.”
