NOVAP Medical, a Trinity startup led by healthcare professionals and engineers, is developing a solution that targets one of the root causes of the infection: bacterial biofilms that form inside endotracheal tubes. The team's innovation is designed to remove these biofilms before they can contribute to serious complications.
Their work recently earned the overall prize at IDEATE Ireland 2026, a national programme supporting early-stage ventures emerging from research and higher education institutions.
Founded by Emily Naylor Jones, a healthcare innovator and experienced critical care nurse, Professor Ignacio Martin-Loeches and Professor Brooke Tornifoglio, the team combines frontline clinical experience with expertise in medical device development. They are now working towards the next phase of testing and commercialisation, supported by Enterprise Ireland funding.
