How to publish new/updated content

1. How to publish a content item:

  • Scroll to the bottom of your content item
  • Click on the dropdown arrow next to save changes
  • Select save and approve
  • The content item appears green - "approved" in the content tab
  • In your site structure, the traffic light symbols to the right of your sections, give you a guide on how many content items are active (green), pending (orange) or inactive (red).

2. How to publish a section:

  • In your site structure, click into the section you want to publish.
  • In the general tab, click on the status dropdown - select Approved.
  • The section will appear grey in the site structure.
  • If it's red in the site structure, it's set to inactive in the general tab and won't appear on the website.
  • If it's orange in the site structure, it's set to pending. It won't appear on the website, but you can still preview the section.

Publishing times

After you select save and approve, your changes are queued for the next publish cycle.

You won't see your changes instantly as the full site publishes every 120 mins

The publish cycle itself takes time to complete, depending on the number of changes to the TCD website.

If you need to urgently make a change - use the Publish button. In your content tab, you have a green publish button on the top right. In your site structure, you can see a publish section button.

To make a quick change use the Publish Button

As the full site publishing cycle only happens every 2 hours, use the publish button to make a quick change.

At the top of your site structure, click on the dot beside the site structure symbol and watch the progress of your publish. It normally takes 2-5 mins.

Preview before publishing

Why is previewing a good idea?

Always preview your page before publishing; once you save and approve, the content is queued for publishing.

If you have made a mistake, make your correction and use the publish button to make a change quickly. Otherwise, the mistake may be on your site for a few hours before the next full site publish.

You can preview a page when it is pending, but not when it is set to inactive.

There are a few 3 places where you can find a preview button:

  1. In your site structure, highlight the section, use the actions menu to select preview section (3rd option).
  2. Preview your page using the preview button at the top left of the content tab.
  3. When you open a content item, click on the preview button on top right of page.
