2022 Keynote Lecture

The 2022 TIME Annual Lecture was given by Professor Dean Karlan, Frederic Esser Nemmers Distinguished Professor of Economics and Finance and co-Director of the Global Poverty Research Lab at Northwestern University.

Dean Karlan is a professor of Economics and Finance at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is the co-Director of the Global Poverty Research Lab, alongside Christopher Udry, and also the Founder and President of Innovations for Poverty Action, a nonprofit dedicated to solving global poverty challenges. Karlan is also on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL) and, in 2015, co-founded ImpactMatters, a nonprofit that evaluates the impact of charities. Karlan’s research centers on poverty, using experimental methods and behavioral economics to discern effective solutions, spanning topics like sustainable income generation, credit and savings markets for low income households, agriculture for smallholder farmers, small and medium entrepreneurship, and charitable giving.
