Dr Matt McElheron is a Research Fellow in Translational Immunology Data Science in the Discipline of Medical Gerontology at Trinity College Dublin, based within the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute (TTMI). He completed his BSc at University College Dublin in 2020 and earned his PhD from Trinity College Dublin in 2024. As a computational biologist and statistician in the laboratory of Associate Professor Nollaig Bourke, he leads research in systems immunology, multi-omic modelling, and longitudinal clinical data integration, co-supervising postgraduate researchers and developing high-dimensional analytical workflows.

His research focuses on biological ageing kinetics, human immune dysregulation, and the mechanisms governing physiological decline across the lifecourse. Within women's health, Dr McElheron leads the OMEGA study (Omic Mapping of Endometriosis, Genetics, and Ageing). Despite being a systemic inflammatory disorder affecting approximately 190 million people worldwide, the long-term impact of Endometriosis on later life ageing remains undercharacterised. His research seeks to determine whether individuals living with Endometriosis experience accelerated biological ageing and to uncover the molecular mechanisms driving this risk. By identifying individual molecular risk signatures predictive of advancement in ageing, this work aims to shift gynaecological healthcare from solely localised symptom management toward proactive, lifecourse systemic risk stratification and clinical support.
