Biography

I am currently Associate Professor in Mental Health Nursing and Head of the Mental Health Nursing Discipline. I am a qualified Mental Health Nurse and hold a professional membership of the Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland (NMBI) as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) and Registered Nurse Tutor (RNT). I teach at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin. I have research experience in areas such physical health co-morbidity in severe mental illness, mental health awareness for non-mental health professionals, and social inclusion for people with severe mental illness, in which I have used mixed methods and qualitative research methods. Following supervision of an MSc student who was awarded a distinction for a qualitative systematic review on body image experiences of women with endometriosis, I have developed an interest in this specific area. However, I am also interested in physical health issues in people with severe mental illness where women’s health screening (cervical and breast screening) is a neglected area.
