Biography

Dr Jhaleh Amirian is a Research Fellow in Biomedical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, working at the interface of biomaterials, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and medical device development.

She has a multidisciplinary background in biomaterials engineering and has more than eight years of post-PhD research experience in the design and characterisation of advanced biomaterials for soft-tissue repair and regeneration. Her research combines material design, mechanical characterisation, tissue biomechanics, and translational medical device development.

Her current work includes the development of biomimetic and regenerative materials for pelvic-floor applications, with a particular focus on stress urinary incontinence and the development of next-generation alternatives to permanent synthetic mesh. She is currently contributing to the Smart-Sling programme, which aims to develop an adjustable and biologically compatible sling platform with improved mechanical performance and tissue integration.

Her broader research interests include understanding how material mechanics, degradation, tissue biomechanics, and biological responses can be integrated to develop patient-specific regenerative therapies. She also has experience in designing mechanically representative soft-tissue models for medical device testing and in collaborating with clinical, academic, patient and industry partners.

She brings to the Centre expertise in biomaterials, regenerative medicine, biomechanics and translational engineering, with a strong interest in developing new technologies for women’s health and pelvic-floor disorders.
