Biography
Yvonne was appointed Assistant Professor in Occupational Therapy at Trinity College Dublin in September 2023, following an established clinical and academic career in rheumatology and enduring health conditions. Her research focuses on the lived experience of illness and disability and their impact on participation in meaningful life roles, with particular interests in parenting and employment.
Yvonne is advancing a parenting-focused research programme examining parenting experiences across diverse populations and health conditions, the impact of chronic illness and disability on parenting as an occupation, parenting supports, and service models that enable participation in parenting roles. She secured TRDA PI-based funding (2024/25) for the Parenting Matters with Arthritis study and co-supervises BSc dissertations at University College Cork on parenting research. She is an active member of OT4Parenting, an international research collaboration advancing parent-focused occupational therapy research, and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications, an invited book chapter on parenting with chronic conditions (Routledge, in press), and international dissemination. She was an invited speaker at the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Conference in April 2026 on parenting as an occupation and has contributed to Arthritis Ireland’s Inflammation Nation podcast.
Yvonne’s work contributes to the Centre through its focus on women and parents living with chronic illness or disability across the reproductive and family life course. Her occupational, patient-centred and lived-experience perspective complements biomedical approaches, addressing how health conditions affect parenting, family life, participation and quality of life, and creating opportunities for interdisciplinary research and impact.
