Biography

Dr Kevin Foy is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin and a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist. His clinical and academic background is in neuropsychiatry, with broader interests in patient safety, healthcare quality, clinical governance and healthcare worker wellbeing.

A personal experience of maternity care led to an interest in quality, safety and outcomes, which has since developed into a research focus on maternal morbidity and mortality.

His current work examines the use of routinely reported maternity safety data to identify variation and potential statistical outliers in maternal outcomes. This has included research on the utility of Maternity Safety Statements, presented at the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) Annual Conference. He is currently undertaking follow-up work examining approaches to case-mix estimation to support more meaningful comparisons between maternity units, alongside preparation of further research arising from this work.

He is also undertaking the UCD Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Risk and Quality to develop further expertise in quality improvement, clinical governance and patient safety.

His interests within the Centre include maternal morbidity and mortality, obstetric patient safety, quality of maternity care, and multidisciplinary approaches to improving maternal outcomes.
