Biography
I am a palaeobiologist studying the emergence and evolution of complex life, from the rise of eukaryotes ~2 billion years ago to their diversification and transition onto land. I use an integrative approach that combines palaeontology with advanced analytical techniques and machine learning, with a particular focus on two key intervals: the rise of the first ecosystems in the Precambrian and the development of early terrestrial ecosystems in the Devonian. My research is interdisciplinary, bridging fossil and modern systems through laboratory, molecular, and computational approaches. I also have a strong interest in astrobiology. I completed my PhD in 2020 at the University of Liège (Belgium), where I studied the early diversification of eukaryotes from Arctic Canada. In 2022, I was awarded a Royal Society Newton Fellowship and a WBI grant to join the University of Edinburgh and further investigate the evolution of early fungi. From 2024 to 2026, I was a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the UK Centre for Astrobiology, where I expanded my research to broader questions in biosignature detection.
