Dr. Dania Movia
Adjunct Assistant Professor, Radiation Therapy

Biography

Dr Dania Movia is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Discipline of Radiation Therapy of Trinity College Dublin, associated with the Trinity St James's Cancer Institute. She is also an Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator at the Department of Biology of Maynooth University (Ireland).

She received her PhD at Trinity College Dublin in 2012, and subsequently she was awarded a Special Purpose Certificate in Academic Practice by the same university in 2018.

Dr Movia champions the reduction and replacement of animal testing via research and training of young scientists. Her current research work focuses on developing new, non-animal methodologies (NAMs) that can replace animal studies in cancer and lung toxicity research. These technologies are based on human cells growing as complex, 3D in vitro tissues, outside the human body.

Dr Movia has received support and funding from several organisations including the Irish Research Council (IRC), Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Animal-Free Research UK, the Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing Award (CAAT), and the European Commission. She has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, edited 1 e-book and she has acted as Guest Editor in "Animals" (MDPI) and "Front. Bioeng. Biotechnol." (Frontiers) journals. She has edited a book for the book series Methods in Molecular Biology, published by Springer Nature. Currently, she is Associated Editor for the Frontiers in Pharmacology journal.

Dr Movia is part of the Scientific Advisory Panel of Animal-Free Research UK and FRAME UK. She is also a member of a number of professional bodies and organisations, which include the Irish Lung Cancer Alliance (ILCA) and Cancer Trials Ireland.
