Under the Government’s Climate Action Mandate, Trinity is required to deliver annual Climate Leadership training to all staff. Since 2023, more than 610 staff members have completed this training. Delivery has largely been supported by external providers such as An Taisce, however, the School of Natural Sciences has developed a new Climate Leadership Development microcredential.
In partnership with An Taisce, we will hold another Climate Leadership training in August 2026. In-person training will take place over two full days on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th August. Online training will be held Monday 10th to Friday 15th August.
The purpose of this training is so that you feel more informed about what climate change is, the solutions available to us and how you can get involved in taking climate action in work and at home. An email with more details will be issued to all staff in the coming weeks.
In May and June 2026, we offered two pilot Biodiversity Leadership training sessions. These were half-day trainings divided into four parts - Biodiversity basics with VP Jane Stout, Leadership with Jane Hackett, Biodiversity actions in the community with Collie Ennis and Communications with Katie Byrne.
We will look to repeat this training on an ongoing basis and update the college community when the next one is planned.
Staff members were offered the opportunity to undertake the My Green Lab Accredited Professional Course during 2025 and 35 staff completed the course. Certificates were awarded to staff at an event officiated by the Dean of Research Sinead Ryan and VP for Biodiversity and Climate Action Jane Stout.

We offer a short Laboratory Sustainability course for students and staff. The course takes about 30 minutes to complete and explores practical ways to:
- Reduce waste (e.g., single-use plastics and consumables)
- Save energy
- Conserve water
- Promote green chemistry
- Support sustainable procurement
At the end, there’s a short multiple-choice quiz to check your understanding.
Certificate of Completion
Those who finish the course will receive a certificate awarded by the Sustainability Office.
How to Enroll:
- Log into Blackboard using your student/staff email.
- Go to Modules → Module Catalogue.
- Type Green Labs in the search bar.
- Hover over the course name, click the down arrow, and select Enroll.
- Click Submit—you’re signed up and ready to learn!

Do you want to cycle to campus but feel too nervous to cycle on a road / cycle path? Are you interested cycle training to help build your confidence? Trinity is offering a two-part training session for staff, which will include a presentation on safety, preparation, and route planning, bike maintenance, a quiet space off-road training session, followed by an on-road cycle. The training will be facilitated by experienced, Cycle Right-accredited trainers. Spaces are limited, so please register your interest below to avoid disappointment. Participants must bring their own bike, and helmets must be worn.
Over 140 staff participated in professional development for ESD, including 50+ staff who were awarded a Certificate of Completion for a ‘Next Steps for Enacting ESD’ staff module.
